Halloween is a holiday filled with mystery that has been a part of our culture for well over a hundred years.

Historically, it’s known as the time when magic is stronger and spirits can make contact…and the time when we get creative to spook and entertain our neighbors with some creative Halloween decorations!

There’s nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned Jack O’lantern! Lucky for you we’ve already talked about how to carve the perfect pumpkin step-by-step right here!

You can use different sizes for the pumpkins, carve different spooky faces, use Fall leaves or lanterns... and with a little variety, you’ll have something unique for Halloween!

Black Cat O’lanterns

A nice twist on the popular Jack O’lantern - use pumpkins and make them into black cats! Black cats are also a staple of Halloween and if you can carve a pumpkin, you can make these!

Milk Jug Luminaries

Who says you have to spend a lot on Halloween decorations? All you need for this one is the following:

  • the ability to draw spooky faces - or simple templates you can copy
  • a sharpie
  • LED tea lights
  • milk jugs
  • sand (to prevent the jugs from tipping over)

Then it’s just a matter of drawing the faces from a template (or freely, if you want), putting the LED tea light inside the milk jug and putting them on display!

Make your front porch look like a witch’s abode with these awesome raven silhouettes! It’s easy enough to make these by yourself and they look great – they’re the Halloween equivalent of minimalism. If that’s even a thing.

Everything you need is detailed here!

This is for those with a dark sense of humor - in typical Halloween fashion, you can make the front of your home look like a crime scene (or an abandoned house).

Here are some suggestions to get the look:

Wooden Garden Ghosts

How do you feel about some ghosts haunting your garden this Halloween?

All you need to create these guys are:

  • 6x6 or 4x6 wood posts
  • grey paint
  • black paint

Alternatively, you could use glow in the dark paint for an extra spookiness!

Fall Lanterns

If you want that mysterious fall vibe without going for the more obvious pumpkins, skeletons, and witchcraft of Halloween, you can instead decorate with fall-themed lanterns like these ones.

Then, add a simple candle inside for a rustic and organic look!

Halloween Curb Appeal

How about instead of trying to scare away possible visitors with Halloween decor, you go for the opposite approach - make a nice environment inviting people over, without sacrificing the Halloween look?

A nice place to sit and relax, rustic wooden furniture, normal pumpkins as opposed to the spooky faces ones, and a spot for apple picking…that’s what Heidi from Honeybear Lane proposes!

Practical Potions Sign

Invite the neighborhood witches in with a lovely practical potions sign. But you better have some actual potions to give, otherwise, they might be mad at you - and you don’t want to have a witch mad at you, trust me on this one!

There are many ways you can go about, but this is a nice tutorial!

Eyes in Darkness

OK, this one might actually give some people a tiny heart-attack if they’re not ready!

To make this ingenious idea all you’ll need is:

That’s it! Simply cut a pair of eyes on each toilet paper roll and put the glow stick inside the roll. Super simple!
