Cleaning your oven is important to ensure not just its longevity, but its overall function during the coming holidays – and we’re guessing right after Thanksgiving, your oven might be in need of a good cleanup.

And while there are many different preferences when it comes to oven cleaning, we can at least cover the correct steps to create a method out of this madness.

Pour soapy water inside a small container, then remove your burner trays from the oven and let them sit on the water for up to 20 minutes while you perform some of the following cleaning steps.

When it’s time to take them out, scrub them lightly with a sponge to remove any remaining debris.

STEP 2

Now let’s clean the stove top. There are many products you can use to spray and remove grease here, so feel free to use your favorite – but you can also create your own homemade mixture.

Mix a ¼ cup of vinegar, 2 cups of hot water and a drop of dish soap, then put it inside a spray bottle. Sprinkle baking soda on the surface you’re cleaning, then spray your mixture and wipe gently.

To get rid of rust, you can use a paste of cream of tartar and water.

To clean the racks, simply remove them and let them sink in soapy water, same as for the burner trays, for about 20 minutes. Likewise, you can also take this time to proceed to the next step while it sits.

Once it’s time to get them out, clean them with a sponge to scrub off any remaining residue, it should come off easily at this point. Finally, rinse and let them dry.

If you still haven’t rinsed the burner trays from Step 1, now’s a good time to do it!

STEP 4

Now, for the oven itself. This is not as simple as the other bits, as some manufacturers may have different recommended methods and you may have to avoid certain products (more abrasive ones, for example).

Generally speaking though, a good first move is to vacuum or wipe crumbs with a damp cloth to prevent them from sticking to your oven.

Then, spray the interior of the oven with your preferred cleaner and scrub it all the way through. To finish it off, rinse it with a cloth until there are no residues left.

However, if you don’t want to use a commercial oven cleaner due to their abrasive nature, you can create your own solution by sprinkling baking soda and spraying the same solution you’ve created before. You might have to scrub a bit longer in places, but the solution is much less poisonous than commercial cleaners.

When you’re done, it’s probably a good time to check on the racks from Step 3 now.

Finally, the last step – the oven windows. Pretty straight-forward, you can basically use whatever you’ve been using to clean the oven to also clean the windows.

But if you need a quick solution, simply mix water and vinegar to clean your oven windows. Easy peasy.
