Fall is the season of change and mystery.

Summer, the season of bright and sunny days, is nearing its end. Mother Nature shows us the warm colors of dry leaves falling and drifting away - like a psychological preparation for the coldness of winter months.

Our fall officially starts September 22nd, but until then, you can gather movies from this awesome playlist to get yourself in that mood for preparation, change, and mystery.

Don’t forget to tell us what you think of these picks!

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” - Albert Camus

When Harry Met Sally

“I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

Why watch it: it’s one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time, it’s quotable to no end, has dozens of memorable scenes, AND it’s set during fall! No wonder it’s the first one on the list.

Autumn In New York

“If you wanted to seduce me you could have just asked.”

Why watch it: the filmmakers made sure nearly every exterior shot had Fall written all over it - there are dry leaves and warm colors everywhere. Winona Ryder and Richard Gere (as lovely as they are) may not be the best onscreen couple, but behind the lovely visuals, it’s still a decent enough “you’re-gonna-cry-by-the-end-of-the-movie” movie.

500 Days of Summer

500 Days of Summer was nominated for the Golden Globe on Best Motion Picture (comedy or musical).

“I hate summer.”

Why watch it: From the absolute first minute of 500 Days of Summer, we know Tom doesn’t get the girl. It’s a story about self-reflection, changing, and learning. And there’s also another very important reason, but we wouldn’t want to spoil the ending now, would we?

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”

Why watch it: Despite not having Fall as a theme, the movie was shot during fall months and you can totally tell. The dry leaves and fall colors are all around, and even the Von Steuben Day parade in Chicago makes an appearance (the parade takes place in September).

Blade Runner

“All those moments will be lost. Like tears in rain.”

Why watch it: A strange pick you say? Well, turns out Blade Runner 2049, the long-awaited sequel to Deckard’s story is coming out October 6th. It’s time to recall what the movie is all about and get ready for a new and hopefully exciting revisit to the Blade Runner universe!

You’ve Got Mail

“The odd thing about this form of communication is that you're more likely to talk about nothing than something. But I just want to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings.”

Why watch it: it’s adorable, it’s inspiring, and it’s set during fall. What’s not to love? Also, 1998’s depiction of the internet is a wonder to look at. We need more love stories like these nowadays.

Dead Poets Society

“Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.”

Why watch it: It doesn’t get more inspirational than this. This touching drama about an eccentric teacher revolutionizing the lives of students in a rigid school has all the themes of fall: change, preservation, mystery, and most of all, self-reflection. And of course, the beginning of school has that typical fall vibe to it.

October Sky

“Science fairs are for geeks.”

Why watch it: An unfairly forgotten inspirational drama based on the true-story of a coal miner’s son who leans his career goals of rocket science after seeing the launch of the soviet satellite Sputnik flying over the October sky. It’s a delightful coming of age story perfect to match the changes that come with fall.

It (original)

“I'm every nightmare you've ever had. I'm your worst dream come true. I'm everything you ever were afraid of.”

Why watch it: Firstly, because it has Halloween all over it. It reminds us of October, which is one of the most memorable months of fall. Secondly, the 2017 remake is coming out in a few days - September 7th to be precise. Could we have another Halloween classic for the following years to come?

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is one of John Hughes most critically acclaimed classics.

“You're in a pretty lousy mood, huh?”

Why watch it: While not exactly about fall - this one takes place in winter - there’s something very familiar about it. The craziness of holiday traveling and the many unpredictable happenings that come along give that little taste of what’s to come when fall nears its end and winter comes knocking on the door…
