Most of us will likely have an intimate New Year’s party at home this year, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be an awesome one! There’s a lot you can do without any crazy preparations or expenses to create a fun and beautiful New Year’s Eve party – even at a short notice.

Given how the end of the year is already here, I’ll suggest party ideas that are easier to pull off on a tight-schedule. At most you should pick off a few things at the supermarket, but that’s about it. The rest you can do at home by yourself in a nick of time!

“The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun." – Christopher McCandless

Whether you want some champagne to share with the family, some red wine to warm your heart, or just some light soda to sip calmly, this simple cart can be the perfect bar. In fact, you don’t have to choose one type of beverage, feel free to diversify and offer different options.

For decoration, a DIY garland, some leftover Christmas ornaments and matching cups will work really well!

If you want an easy way to make your New Year’s decoration work, I recommend focusing on golden decor of all sorts – ornaments, balloons, garlands, anything really. Golden brings a much needed sense of elegance to your party, and at the same time it looks very distinct from the usual Christmas decor, separating both celebrations visually.

Holiday movie marathon

Many of us prefer a chill night at home anyway, so why not have some lighthearted fun with a movie marathon? Doesn’t necessarily have to be New Year’s or Christmas themed movies, you can pick from any selection you like – perhaps your favorite movie franchise or a new one you want to introduce to the family.

Here are a few of my personal picks for movie marathons:

  • Star Wars Trilogy. Whichever one is your favorite. Or all nine films, why not?
  • Back To The Future Trilogy. A lighthearted, action-packed and hilarious saga.
  • Marvel Cinematic Universe. All 20-ish films don’t fit in one night, that’s for sure, but everyone has their favorites!
  • Harry Potter Saga. Sure we’re talking 8 movies, but split that between two days and it’s more manageable.
  • Disney Renaissance Favorites. The streak of animated features Disney released in the 90’s is considered their golden age (including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Hercules, and others). Pick your favorites and start the marathon!
  • The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The fantasy epic that started it all is still a fantastic watch nowadays.

Disco ball

There’s no need to make your party disco-themed (but hey, there’s an idea!) to enjoy the glamour of disco balls. Fairly easy to acquire, disco balls look excellent under the right light as they sparkle and bring a lot of life into your party.

Besides, disco balls are ICONIC for parties, so what would a New Year’s party ideas list be without them?

Ornaments

Got some leftover Christmas ornaments? Put them to good use for your New Year’s party! Having a well-defined color palette isn’t really necessary, just see what you have in stock and start working from there. If you have the time, maybe DIY a garland, framed printable, add some leftover giftwraps into the mix… you can make a lot happen with leftover materials.

Music playlist

This is an undisputed fact about parties: you may not have many fancy decorations, food, and even that many guests, but press “Play on a great music playlist… and it’s a party already.

Most music streaming services have playlists specifically for parties, but you can take a few minutes to customize one to your liking. Add your favorite party bangers, old or new, and the atmosphere will be completely changed!

Bloody Mary for all

I mentioned before how you can turn a simple cart into a mini-bar for everyone, but this one is exclusive for the adults. And this is a beverage we are quite familiar with – the Bloody Mary! A strong drink that will kick start any day, it’s guaranteed to be the fire your party needs.

The usual ingredients for one portion of a Bloody Mary are (as seen here):

  • Salt
  • lemon wedge
  • lime wedge
  • 2 ounces of vodka
  • 4 ounces of tomato juice
  • 2 teaspoons of horseradish
  • 2 dashes of Tabasco sauce
  • 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch of ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch of smoked paprika

Sounds like a strong one, eh? Get a prep station ready and serve away!
