Decorating with pumpkins is pretty much an obligation for this time of the year – between the Fall harvest and Halloween, they make for a perfect fit! And there is no shortage of ideas for decorating with pumpkins, and that’s what I’m focusing on today.
Instead of going straight for the traditional, how about going for no-carve pumpkin decoration ideas? Carving pumpkins can be quite fun, but it requires a bit more time, tools, and care than your usual DIY, especially if you wanted to decorate with lots of them. Maybe you don’t have the time and want something simpler, which is why we’re here.
Besides, you’ll quickly find that opting for no-carving is far from a limitation. They say that limitation is the engine that powers creativity, and they’re not wrong: many of these options are just as creative and beautiful!

1. Spooky faces
Even without carving it’s not difficult to get yourself a bunch of pumpkins with spooky faces for Halloween. You can go about it one of two ways: either paint the face details in black with a brush, or paint the entire pumpkin in white (either with a brush or spray) and use tape or custom adhesives to silhouette the eyes and mouth details.
2. Natural
Sometimes less is more. You can get a rustic, pure and natural Fall aesthetic by simply stacking your pumpkins in their purest form. Decorate around it with leaves, flannels, and lanterns and the entire look will come together nicely.
3. Splashes of color
Decorating with paint splatters is super fun! The idea is as straightforward as you can imagine: paint your pumpkins in different colors with spray paint, then splatter some colorful paint around with a brush.
Just be sure to set up your work area with some newspapers to protect nearby walls and furniture from getting splashed as well, and maybe use some eye protection!
4. Droop
A mix of modern and glam, these pumpkins are incredibly stylish. Start by painting them a light color with either spray paint or a brush (though spray paint is much easier), and for the final touch, choose your color and let it drip from the top, taking whatever shape it desires. Let it dry and it’s done.
You can achieve some particularly cool results if you manage to use metallic or glitter paint!
5. Pumpkin succulents
These are so wonderful you might consider them for any time of the year, not just Fall. Succulents are awesome house plants because they require little to no maintenance and never grow beyond their confinements – so why not use a pumpkin as a container for your succulents?
You can paint and customize their look as much as you want, in fact, you can even leave them as they are! Just remember to take some precautions so your pumpkins remain fresh for a while.
6. Sparkly glam
Everyone loves a little sparkle and these pumpkins are here to light up the room. Get some gold sequins and glue them to your pumpkin in a circular pattern to create basically a polka-dot texture, and the job is done.
There is a twist however: for this and for most of the pumpkin crafts on this list, you can use plastic faux pumpkins. They’re easier to manage, clean, and store – and just makes things more practical since we’re not carving. But of course, you can also do this to your normal pumpkins if you prefer.
7. Reverse silhouettes
Now is the time for some spray paint fun. Get yourself some Halloween stencils and spray paint those pumpkins to reveal beautiful patterns that take no effort at all. If you’re feeling fancy, you can first paint the entire pumpkin one color, let it dry, and then apply the stencil to create different color combinations.
8. Home number
Your porch and entry steps can also benefit from pumpkin decoration. Once again, you can use a real or faux pumpkin for this project because the focus is on giving the spotlight to your house number. For this case, the bigger the pumpkin, the better!
9. Royal witch
Now this is a very Halloween styled pumpkin – worthy of a royal witch. The combination of black and gold is one of the most elegant out there, and it’s fairly easy to pull off. All you need is to spray paint your pumpkin (faux or not) and glue golden adornments to it – whatever shape you find is good enough, doesn’t have to be a perfect copy of this one!
10. Unicorn pumpkin
Not everything has to be spooky or Halloween-themed though, you can just create something cute and unique for your no-carving pumpkin craft. With just a few materials and paint you can create this adorable pumpkin unicorn!
