Valentine’s Day is getting closer and I want to help you write the perfect card for your loved one! It’s a simple but passionate gesture that means a lot and will make any gift that much more special.

But writing is very subjective and certainly too complicated to explain it all here, so what can we do?

Let’s keep it simple – these are cute ways to embellish your card with a few words of love just in time for Valentine’s Day this February 14th!

A song lyric

Feel forms of art can express love as well as music. We all have our favorites for every mood and I’m sure you can list your top 5 romantic songs without thinking about it for long.

So pick your favorite verse from one of your go-to romantic songs and write it down on the card. You could also write one from your loved one’s favorite song, which I’m sure you know! Maybe you even have “your song that really defined your relationship at the start.

But if you’re looking for some inspiration, here are a few of my favorite romantic songs:

  • I’ll Stand By You – The Pretenders
  • All I Need – Radiohead
  • In Your Eyes – Jessie Ware
  • What If We Are? – Echo and the Bunnymen
  • Exist For Love – AURORA
  • Into My Arms – Nick Cave
  • Lovesong – The Cure
  • Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol
  • Simple Twist of Fate – Bob Dylan
  • The Only Exception – Paramore
  • The Stars (Are Out Tonight) – David Bowie
  • Live Forever – Oasis
  • Writing To Reach You – Travis

Another great idea is to make your partner a romantic playlist! With the help of Spotify this should be easy, but consider actually burning it onto a disc for a vintage flair!

(I can’t believe discs are vintage now, I’m getting old…)

A poem

Poems are one of my go-to’s when words fail me. They can say so much with such an economy of words, giving room for talented writers to really show their talent for the craft.

And love poems are in no short supply – they’ve been around for millennia and you’re sure to find one that perfectly describes the love you feel. If you’re up for it, you can even purchase a poem book either as a gift or as a way to read something new while looking for the perfect verses.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
– Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Describe your favorite memory together

Love is all about sharing memories. Think about your favorite moments together and write them down to put in your Valentine’s Day card!

If you’re not confident in your writing, don’t worry about it. Just write it as you remember it and don’t worry about flourishing too much – you will get the memory across, I’m sure of it. Just imagine you’re writing it down in your journal.

A cute drawing of you two

There’s something really adorable about seeing yourself in a drawing with your loved one, but not all of us are artists so how to proceed? Order a commission.

There are tons of talented artists online that can create a beautiful drawing of you and your partner (maybe even your pets) for a good price. It’s a wonderful and unique souvenir that’s personal for both of you!

If you don’t know where to start, I recommend a freelancer website like Fivver.

Your future plans

Every couple has plans for the future, so why not celebrate this future together by taking note of all the things you want to accomplish together? Or even just a few date ideas you’d like to do, it doesn’t have to be super serious!

I’m sure you have your own personal goals, but here are a few things you could add to get you inspired:

  • Build a house
  • Have a child
  • Travel to another country
  •  Watch each other’s favorite movies
  • Watch the sunrise together
  • Write each other a poem
  • Create a photo album

A quote from your favorite movie

It’s always wonderful when someone is familiar with your favorite thing, whatever that may be. Showing your partner that you remember their favorite movie is a cute way to express your love, even more so if you can find a quote that fits.

An invitation

Finally, you can surprise them by writing down an invitation! Invite them to a dinner out, or a movie, whatever you think they’ll like more. And if possible, you should already have the date set when you make the invitation, making it even more real when they read it.
